Frontpage Guide

This guide will help you setup and configure Microsoft Frontpage. We wrote this guide to be extremely detailed and easy to understand. With the help of this guide, you should be able to upload your website using Frontpage with ease. As with any computer application, you will need to follow the directions and read the entire guide or things will not work. Please note that your domain must be resolving (i.e. your domain's DNS is pointing to our server) to publish with Frontpage.

It is also worth noting that Frontpage Extensions are EOL or have reached their End Of Life. This means that Frontpage is no longer supported by the developers, Microsoft. Microsoft has replaced Frontpage with a new product, Microsoft Web Expression.

Frontpage is still compatible with our servers, but you should consider upgrading to a new Web Development suite or finding a suitable alternative.

  Getting Started

When you first startup frontpage you will have a window open similiar to the one shown below.

- Make sure the website you wish to publish is open, for this guide we will be using a very simple page which simply says the word "example".

- Your homepage needs to be named "index.htm" or "index.html" to properly display as the home page. The name MUST be in all lower case letters as the server is setup to look specifically for this case sensitive filename.

Step 1: To begin publishing go to File > and choose "Publish Site..." as shown.

Step 2: Ensure you have the first option selected, "FrontPage Server Extensions or SharePoint Services". In the "Web Site Location" field, enter your domain name. Our domain name being used is examplewebsite.net

Note: DO NOT check the box for "Encrypted connection required (SSL)"

Step 3: Click Next > to bring up the login window. Enter your cPanel username and password listed in your welcome email and then click "OK"

Step 4: After connecting you will be brought back to Frontpage with a split pane window showing your local website files on the left and the remote files on our server on the right. Click on the "Web Site" Tab. From here click the button labeled "Publish Web Site" located in the lower right hand corner, making sure the option "Local to Remote" is selected.

Step 5: Once the process finishes, your site is published. You will see all of your files in both the left and the right panes as shown below.

That's it! In our example, we published our index.htm page. Now when we visit our site in a browser, the index.htm page will autmatically load and we will be served the contents of our page. You can repeat this process to publish any changes you make to your site at anytime.
